【JR Kanazawa Station】
Board a Kenrokuen shuttle bus or a Hokutetsu bus that goes to Kenroku-en Garden at the Kanazawa Station East Exit Bus Terminal. If you have time, Kanazawa Loop bus is a good alternative. It goes through some old parts of town, and you can enjoy views of the traditional Higashiyama District and the Asanogawa River on your way.

Kanazawa Station
【Kenroku-en Garden】
Get off the bus at Kenroku-en-shita and climb the slope. You will see Kenroku-en Garden on your left, and if you cross the bridge on your right, you will see the Ishikawa-mon Gate of Kanazawa Castle. Kenroku-en Garden is regarded as one of the three most beautiful gardens in Japan, along with Kairaku-en Garden in Mito, and Koraku-en Garden in Okayama. You can enjoy beautiful seasonal views, the most well known of which is the subtly and profoundly beautiful scene of trees tied with ropes to protect them from snow in winter. Along with Kotoji Stone Lantern, this is a must-see highlight of the garden, and one of the symbols of Kanazawa.

Kenroku-en Garden
【Kanazawa Castle】
After strolling in the garden, return to the Katsura-zaka-guchi entrance and go through the Ishikawa-mon Gate into the site of Kanazawa Castle. You will see the elegant restored buildings of Hishi-yagura, Gojikken-nagaya and Hashizume-mon Tuzuki-yagura.

Ishikawa-mon Gate
【Japanese Confections Making】
After enjoying the scenery, go back to the Kenroku-en-shita intersection and head for Kanko Bussankan (local products shop), where you can experience making traditional sweets. You can also enjoy shopping for local products of Kanazawa and other areas of Ishikawa Prefecture.

【Tea Ceremony】
You may be a little tired now. How about taking a rest in a traditional tearoom? Across from Kanko Bussankan, you will find an alley leading to the Nishida Family's Gyokusen-en Garden, which is older than Kenroku-en Garden. Here, you can have powdered green tea with traditional sweets.

【Kaga Yuzen Silk Dyeing】
After your rest, you’ll be ready to move on to the next building — Kaga Yuzen Traditional Industry Center. This place is operated by the Kaga Dyeing Promotion Association for the purpose of promoting Kaga-yuzen silk dyeing. There are gorgeous kimonos on display, and you can see craftsmen hand-painting kimonos in the studio. You can try stamp dyeing on a handkerchief or a scarf, and also take a walk in the vicinity dressed in a kimono.

【Way back】
With your souvenir handkerchief or scarf, you can take the bus back from Kenroku-en-shita. Kanazawa Loop bus makes a detour to 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, Kanazawa, and the Saigawa River.

Kenrokuen Shuttle
Kotoji Stone Lantern
This stone lantern is emblematic of Kenroku-en Garden. It is located on the north side of Kasumiga-ike Pond. This lantern has two legs, which is said to resemble Kotoji, the bridge on a koto.
Karasaki-no Matsu Pine
The tree has the most beautiful sprawling branches in Kenroku-en Garden. It is especially beautiful in winter when supported by umbrella-like ropes to protect the branches from breaking with heavy snow
Midori-taki Waterfall
Water flowing out of Kasumiga-ike pond flows into Hisago-ike pond.The solemn sight of the waterfall cannot be seen in any other gardens, and is one of the most excellent landscapes in Kenroku-en Garden.
Fountain
The fountain is said to have been developed to send water to the secondary closure of the castle.The fountain shoots 3.5m high, but it depends on the surface level of Kasumiga-ike pond. It is said to be the oldest fountain in Japan.
Seisonkaku Villa
Seisonkaku whose previous name "Tatsumigoten" was built for wives of the Maeda family. It was first built on grounds of 1500 tsubo (a Japanese unit of area of land equal to about 3.3squaremeters)including row houses and storehouses, although only 500 tsubo remains today.
